Throwback Thursday: Noodlers Bad Blue Heron in Lamy Al-Star LE Copper Orange 1.1

Last week I did a first impressions of using the Goulet 1.1 stub nib on the Noodlers Ahab. This week, it's using the same ink with the Lamy 1.1.

Pen: Lamy Al-Star LE Copper Orange 1.1 Stub

Ink: Noodlers Bad Blue Heron

Paper: Rhodia No. 16 Grid

Handwritten Review

Well I had to do this comparison amongst 1.1 stubs with the same ink. The Goulet nib feels wetter, less crisp. I like the preciseness of this nib. I thought that the lines put off by Goulet nib is a touch broader. But can't really see it with the naked eye, certainly this nib feels crisper as well. It's still smooth. No bleed, show through or feather, still good. Nice shading. No sheen.

Looking back, I was likely having all sorts of tinkering problems with the Ahab. The ink piston did have a small crack afterwards and was always leaking ink everywhere. So it's quite possible that the flow issues was more pen relate than nib related.

Having said that, I must say I really love feel of the Lamy 1.1 stub. I love the toothiness and precision of the nib. It feels satisfying to write with it.
